Let’s dive into how to make a budget using this printable.
First, select the month that you are creating your budget for.
Part of good budgeting is staying organized, and knowing what month you are working in is one part of that.
You also want to set a goal for the month to help you stay on track.

Next, enter your sources of income.
Fill in the source of the income and the amount you should get from that source.
Add up all the income you will receive during the month, and put that in the Total Income box.

Go ahead and take a minute to decide on a goal for this month, and add that to the goal section.
Then it is time to start filling in the information for your bills and expenses.
First work with your monthly bills–those pesky expenses that are required for living and cost the same amount (or almost the same) every month.
Things like rent, car insurance and utilities.

Add up all your fixed expenses and put that total into the Bills Total box.
Next up are your variable expenses.
These are the things you spend money on each month, but the amount may not be the exact same.
This section will be filled with things like groceries, gas for the car and personal spending.

Total up all the variable expenses and add that into the expenses total box.
Sinking Funds are next on our budget process. And we LOVE sinking funds around here.
Sinking funds are like mini savings goals that you add to, adn can draw from, when needed.
We have sinking funds for birthdays, christmas and car repairs (among other things).
Decide what your sinking funds are and how much you want to add for each.
Then enter that into the sinking funds section.

Total up your sinking funds and enter the total into the sinking fund total box.
Next up is savings goals.
This section is going to be for your larger savings goals–new car, house, college–whatever your big money goals are, this is where that goes.
Enter your savings goals and the amount you plan to save for them. Then total them all up.

Lastly is your debt payments.
Enter each of your debts and how much you plan to put towards them this month.
And total up this last section.,

You did it. You just created a budget that is meant to work for you, your lifestyle AND your goals.
The last step is to take your income total and subtract ALL the other totals.

The goal is to get a number VERY close to $0, if not actually $0.
